கார்த்திகை மாதத்தில் கார்த்திகை நட்சத்திரம் கூடிய திருநாள் கார்த்திகை தீபத் திருநாளாகும். இன்று வீடுகள், கோயில்கள் முதலிய இடங்களில் விளக்கு ஏற்றி வழிபடுவது வழக்கமாகும். அருட்பெரும் ஜோதி வடிவாகிய இறைவனை அக்னி லிங்கமாக தரிசித்து அருள் பெற 'சொக்கப்பனை' ஏற்றப்படுகிறது. நெல் பொரி, அவல் பொரி நிவேதனமும் செய்யும் திருநாளாகும்.

The day of the Karthikai star in the month of Karthikai is celebrated as  Thirukkarthikai, a festival of lamps. Homes and temples will be lit with sparkling lamps on this day. The ‘Sokkappanai’ in the form of an Agni Lingam is lit to worship God as Light. Rice grains and rice flakes are also offered on this day.
