ஆடி மாதம் தக்ஷணாயன காலத்தின் முதல் மாதமாகும். இந்த மாதம் குல தெய்வ வழிபாடு செய்யவும் முன்னோர்கள் வழிபாடு செய்யவும் ஏற்ற மாதமாக கடைபிடிக்கபட்டு வருகிறது. சக்தி வடிவமாகிய பெண் தெய்வங்களை குல தெய்வமாக வழிபடும் குல மரபு உடையோர். இன்று குல தெய்வத்தை வேண்டி விரதமிருந்து அருகில் உள்ள கோயில்களில் வழிபடுவது ஆடி வெள்ளியின் சிறப்பு ஆகும்.

Aadi is the first month of the Dakshinayana period (Six month period from summer to winter when the Sun is seen to travel towards the South). The month of Aadi is ideal for the worship of Kula Deivams (clan deities) and ancestors. Those who worship clan goddesses, who are also revered as manifestations of Shakthi, observe a fast seeking the blessings of their clan deity and worship them at a nearby temple on Aadi Friday.
