முருகப்பெருமானுக்குறிய தினங்களில் ஷஷ்டியும் ஒன்றாகும். ஷஷ்டி மாதம் இருமுறை வருகிறது. வளர்பிறையில் வரும் சுக்ல ஷஷ்டியே போகம், மோக்ஷம் இரண்டையும் தரவல்லது. சந்ததி விருத்தி வேண்டி விரதம் இருந்து முருகனை கோயிலில் வழிபடுவது சிறந்தது ஆகும்.

Shashti (6th Day after the new or full moon) is one of the days specially marked for the worship of Lord Murugan. Shashti comes twice a month. Sukla Shashti, which comes during the waxing moon phase, has the ability to grant both pleasures (Bogam) and liberation (Moksha).  Couples hoping to beget children are advised to observe a fast and worship Lord Murugan in the temple, on this day.
